About Belmonte's Bunnies

We're a small family rabbitry tucked into Ramsey, Minnesota, and our bunnies aren't kept out in a barn somewhere. They're raised right here inside our home, underfoot, as part of the family.

Every litter is born indoors and handled from the very beginning. We hold them, we talk to them, and we let them get used to the ordinary noise of a busy household — the TV, the dishwasher, kids coming through the door. By the time a bunny is old enough to go anywhere, it already knows that hands mean good things.

We stay deliberately small. We'd rather have a handful of rabbits we know by name and personality than more than we can properly care for. That means we know how each one likes to be picked up, which ones come running when the pellet bag rustles, and which ones would rather flop in a corner and be left alone.

Everything we've learned about keeping them healthy and comfortable is written down in our care guide below — it goes home with every bunny, and it's here for anyone who wants to read it.

Our Newest Litter

Still in the nesting box, still tiny, and already getting handled every day.

Born

Our newest little ones arrived on July 17th and are still curled up in the nesting box, buried in aspen shavings and mostly interested in sleeping.

They're born deaf, blind, and completely furless, so the first couple of weeks are all about staying warm and staying fed. Their eyes open at around ten days, and not long after that they start tipping themselves out of the box to explore.

We check on them daily and handle them gently from the start, so that by the time they're old enough to leave, being picked up is nothing new. Bunnies stay with their mom until at least eight weeks old.

Belmonte's Bunny Care Guide

This guide goes home with every one of our bunnies. Everything here is what we do ourselves, every day.

Feeding

  • Pellets: ¼ cup of Small World pellets (Wal‑Mart) daily.
  • Hay: Unlimited Timothy hay at all times.
  • Important: Do not introduce additional foods until at least 4 months of age. Introduce only one new food at a time.

Water

  • Provide fresh water daily.
  • Use a heavy Pyrex dish to prevent tipping.

Litter & Elimination

  • Use ASPEN wood chips only in the litter box.
  • Change the litter box every 2–3 days.
  • Deep clean weekly with vinegar to reduce odor and bacteria.

Grooming

  • Trim nails and brush fur once per week.
  • Do not submerge in water.
